Died peacefully at her residence on March 6, 2016 at age 93. She is being mourned by her children Richard (Darian), Tom (Sandra) Leo, Kathy (Roger Foster) and Mary Ellen (Michael Grondin), her grandchildren Shawn, Joel, Nicole (Dan), step grand and great grandchildren Richard Foster, Chris (Jillian), Matthew and Nicole Grondin, and Noah, Marlee and Chris Grondin. Lovingly remembered by her brother Leo (Jen) Mulhall (Prince Albert SK) and many cousins, nieces and nephews in Ontario and the prairies. She is pre-deceased by her beloved husband of 66 years, Jerry Bernard, her parents (Richard Mulhall and Ethel (Doyle) Mulhall), her sister in law Hazel and brothers; Gerald, Joe and Jack Mulhall. Mary grew up in Gull Lake SK and always kept both her prairie roots and Irish ancestry close to her heart. She attended Moose Jaw Normal School and taught in a number of small prairie schools during the war years. In 1946, she married the love of her life, Jerry Bernard of Caron SK; they moved to Saskatoon while Jerry studied for his engineering degree and Mary tended to first born son, Rick. They then moved to Windsor ON so Jerry could work as an automotive engineer. Mary was a life-long member of St. John Vianney Church family, singing in the choir and doing volunteer outreach work while raising five active children. As a former teacher, she stressed the importance of education and was proud that all of her children achieved university degrees. Mary always loved being around friends and family, with fond memories of parties and card games with the Laporte St. gang. She loved staying connected to the Mulhall and Doyle clans, especially through the Mulhall reunions in Proton. Heartfelt thanks to Amy’s Helping Hands, which supported mom and dad both in their home and in their transition to long term care, with special thanks to Brandi Lynn for her enthusiastic assistance. Most recently, Mary resided in Heron Terrace (Shallows End) where she received wonderful care and support for a high quality of life. Visitation will be held at Marcotte Funeral Home (12105 Tecumseh Rd. Tecumseh 519-735-2830) on Wednesday March 9, 2016 from 2-5 pm and from 7-9 pm. Parish prayers at 4:30 pm. The funeral service will be held from the funeral home on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 9:45am to St. John Vianney Church, 385 Dieppe St., for the funeral mass at 10:30 am. Interment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, we ask you consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Society (http://www.alzheimer.ca/windsoressex) or to the charity of your choice. Keeping in mind Mary’s love for all things Irish, the family asks that people attending the visitation or the funeral wear something green as a tribute.
